Pablo Center FIRST Lego League Team to compete at Sectional Tournament

Pablo Center at the Confluence is excited to announce the advancement of their FIRST Lego League Team to the sectionals tournament on Saturday, December 10 in Mukwonago, Wis.

The nationwide FIRST Lego League is a program inspiring youth in grades 4 – 8 to learn and explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts, and Mathematics) concepts. Students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering to build and program a robot to navigate missions and challenges set by the national competition.

Pablo Center’s Team #50496 is a community-based team of five students from area elementary and middle schools. The club practices implementing code to create a robot that moves objects and they discuss concepts surrounding this year’s competition theme – power.

The club offers area students an opportunity to grow and challenge themselves according to STEAM Programs Manager, Mary LaVenture. Students have spent the past several months continuously learning and advancing their project, meeting with area professionals to get feedback, and testing their robot’s limits.

Club members first presented their robot on November 12, 2022 at the regional competition in Madison, Wis. The group won the Engineering Excellence Award, one of five accolades granted at the twenty-team meetup. The award celebrated their efficiently designed robot, a separate innovation solution for improving the use of energy in our community, and their demonstration of Lego League core values: Discovery, Innovation, Inclusion, Teamwork, and Fun.

“They came together throughout the day and really worked as a team. It was wonderful to see them brainstorm to overcome challenges, cheer each other on, and just have a great time bonding,” recounts LaVenture. “Advancing to sectionals was an amazing moment for them. When our name was called, you could see the energy and excitement in the students’ eyes. They were so proud of all they accomplished that day.”

Pablo Center’s FIRST Lego League team’s success at the regional competition advances them to the sectional tournament. The competition takes place on Saturday, December 10 at Park View Middle School, 930 N. Rochester St. in Mukwonago, Wis.
