APPROXIMATE TIME: 30 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR
The days are getting longer and brighter with the summer sun.
Not sure what to do with all of your plastic lid lying around? Instead of just throwing them away, let’s make suncatchers out of them!
Using plastic lids, kids will draw different designs with sharpies or other permanent markers to create stained glass-like sun catchers.
EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME:
Kids can learn about making unique designs and exploring creativity. They can also learn about recycling by using discarded plastic lids for their art.
Art Materials Needed
- Clear or any kind of semi-transparent plastic lid
- A variety of colored sharpies or dry erase markers
- String or discarded shoelace
- Pen
- Sharp pencil
Project Instructions
- Trace out design or image that you would like on your sun catcher
- Color in your image and the background
- Punch hole on the end that you would like to be right side up, using a pen or sharpened pencil to make the hole
- Loop string into the hole and tie a knot
- Make a lasso at the top of the string so that the suncatcher can hang from a window
- Hang from window!
