Letter Scroll Case

AGE RANGE:  PROJECT SHOULD BE EASILY ACCOMPLISHED BY AGES 4 AND UP WITH HELP FROM PARENT OR GUARDIAN

APPROXIMATE TIME: 30 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR

What does being kind mean to you? Does this mean helping someone else when they need it? Being generous to your brothers and sisters? Sharing toys with your friends? Caring for your neighbors?

Sometimes, being kind can just mean doing small things, like saying thank you to someone else.

This ARTmobile@home project is going to introduce you to a very special way to show your kindness toward someone else, a letter scroll case made by you!

EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME

Inspired by the book “Be Kind” by Pat Zietlow Miller.
Reuse materials, writing and history lessons. Scrolls were used throughout history going all the way back to ancient Egypt. By rolling the letter up and put it in a case, the letter is protected, and the scroll can also be used as a decoration.

Art Materials Needed
Art Materials Needed
  • Paper towel roll
  • Yarn
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon
  • Paper (color paper would be nice)
  • Pen (Ink pen is recommended)
Project Instructions
  1. Make a glue line across the paper towel roll length wise.
  2. Roll yarn around the paper towel roll
  3. Be creative with the yarn pattern of your choice
  4. Secure both edges of the yarn
  5. Leave dry
  6. Make a bow from a piece of ribbon
  7. Write your letter (draft it before using ink pen)
  8. Roll up your letter and put it in the case
  9. Surprise your loved ones
